Welcome to my page! Since I retired (May, 2014), I have developed an interest in photography, and have had an interest in woodworking for several decades. Professionally, I was very much involved with science, technology, engineering, and generally 'how things work'. This is most useful for woodworking, at least the mechanics of it, but not as useful for art, especially in photography. Consequently, I am finding myself exploring the components of composition, whether in making a photograph or designing a woodworking project. These pages will (hopefully) document my progress on this path. It also provides a mechanism for friends and family to see and download pictures that they may want or just enjoy some of the places we have travelled and gathered the incidental pictures.
A brief note on post-processing pictures: I am using Lightroom 5 (Adobe) to post-process my pictures (as well as GIMP for some pixel level manipulations) and all of them will have some degree of post processing. My goal in this processing is to get closer to what I actually saw, bringing out the missing features, adjusting exposure, correcting the color balance, straightening and cropping for a pleasing composition. I will also on rare occasions use tools to straighten and adjust perspective on images. This is sometimes necessary when you cannot actually get to the position where a picture NEEDS to be taken. At this time I am not doing major 'photoshopping' - removing elements, adding elements, moving elements around, etc. Artistically, I am much closer to Claude Monet than I am to Jackson Pollock.
